A Mother Passionate About Natural Birth, Health, and Living

Doula Services

“Birth is not only about making babies.  Birth is about making mothers ~ strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”

–Barbara Katz Rothman

I believe a woman should have the best possible experience for the birth of her child. She should have the support and resources she needs to make good decisions as her child is welcomed into his or her family. I view birth as a normal process that should be treated as such. A woman’s body is perfectly designed for birth. To allow the birth process to be respected and give the authority back to the woman for the birth of her child is my overall goal. My passion for birth has led me to this profession so that I can help women gather all the resources they may need to get the most out of their birth experience. Childbirth should be an empowering transition into motherhood, and as a Doula I hope to support the woman in a way that will allow her to create her best birth.

A little bit about me:

  • I am a mother of 2 beautiful boys and have been lucky enough to stay home with them for the past 2 years.
  • I have had two very different experiences with my own births: My first was a hospital induction with numerous interventions, and the second was a natural birth at home.
  • I am working towards my DONA Birth Doula Certification.
  • I help organize the meetings for the local Natural Birth & Parenting Network, CHOICES.
  • I am the Director at Natural Parenting Education Network
  • I make Ring Slings.

A Birth Doula:

  • Recognizes birth as a key life experience that the mother will remember all her life
  • Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor
  • Assists the woman and her partner in preparing for and carrying out their plans for birth
  • Stays by the side of the laboring woman throughout the entire labor
  • Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures, an objective viewpoint, and assistance to the woman in getting the information she needs to make good decisions
  • Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner, and clinical care providers
  • Perceives her role as one who nurtures and protects the woman’s memory of her birth experience
  • The acceptance of doulas in maternity care is growing rapidly with the recognition of their important contribution to the improved physical outcomes and emotional well being of mothers and infants.
